Creating a predator free Dunedin by 2050.

Predator Free Dunedin is a conservation collective working collaboratively to protect native biodiversity and strengthen communities.

Together, our members share a long-term vision to get rid of possums, rats and stoats from Dunedin’s urban and rural landscapes by 2050. We are building on existing projects and linking the areas between by supporting new large-scale predator control initiatives.

Our impact

Our community is working to get rid of possums, rats and stoats from Dunedin’s urban and rural landscapes by 2050. Together, we have removed more than 77,000 predators!

Introduced predators like rats, possums, and stoats are a major problem for New Zealand’s native biodiversity.

Since arriving on our shores, they have pushed our native wildlife to the brink of extinction. New Zealand has one of the highest extinction rates of native species in the world. More than 4,000 native species are classified as threatened or at risk of extinction.

Predator control is critical for the survival of our precious wildlife and plants. We must act now to prevent more native species being lost forever.
