Help Protect Dunedin’s Native Biodiversity

Since 2018, Predator Free Dunedin has been working to restore the native wildlife of Ōtepoti - bringing birdsong back to our neighbourhoods and protecting the species that make this place unique.

Together, we’ve achieved remarkable results:

  • Over 70,000 possums, 40,000 rats, and 2,000 mustelids removed

  • The Otago Peninsula officially declared possum free in 2026 - a major milestone for Dunedin and Aotearoa

  • Native birds like tūī, bellbirds, and kererū returning in increasing numbers

  • Healthier backyards, gardens, and green spaces across the city

This is what success looks like - and it’s only the beginning.

Today, Predator Free Dunedin spans a vast landscape, from the Otago Peninsula through the city, up West Harbour, across Mt Cargill and the Silverpeaks, and right up the coastline to Karitāne. Across this area, our work is active, coordinated, and making a real difference.

But predator control is not a one-time effort. Without ongoing action, predators return - and the gains we’ve made can quickly be lost.

Your support helps keep Dunedin moving forward.

A donation today will help us:

  • Protect the breakthrough achieved on the Otago Peninsula

  • Sustain predator control across our growing project area

  • Support communities and volunteers leading change on the ground

  • Continue building a predator-free future for Ōtepoti

We’ve proven what’s possible. Now we need to protect it - and build on it.

Be part of what’s next for Dunedin.
