Forest & Bird Bring Back the Seabirds

Forest & Bird’s Dunedin Branch is protecting seabirds in Dunedin with its Bring Back the Seabirds Project.

This aims to enhance remnant breeding seabird colonies  on the Otago coast, including at three sites on Dunedin’s doorstep where we work to protect tītī/sooty shearwater, tarapunga/red-billed gull, tara/white-fronted tern and tītīwainui/fairy prion. This is being achieved through introduced predator control and exclusion, which we inform with nest montoring, as well as advocacy to increase awareness on the importance of protecting seabirds.

Bring Back the Seabirds is a Forest & Bird led initiative conducted in collaboration with the Yellow Eyed Penguin Trust, the Otago Peninsula Biodiversity Group, Department of Conservation, and Dunedin City Council.
